To the untrained eye my garden must look like it is has been abandoned, consumed by the hay field with zucchini and butternut squash tendrils tangled in the grass, weeds outpacing the intentional plantings, neglected pathways, toppled brussel sprouts, the obvious results of a city slicker who in the Spring ordered up a truck load of dirt and way too many seed packs. Despite the neglect, the fall harvest proved abundant thanks to a boat load of sun and regular drenching with sheep poo diluted in water. Oh, the power of poo.
It’s too bad I don’t really like vegetables. Swiss Chard? What was I thinking? Celeriac roots the size of softballs, but to what end? Look at the size of those three cabbages in the first photo. Todd likes sauerkraut, but not that much.
A good friend has loaned me cookbooks loaded with harvest time recipes and I’ll begin pouring through them for inspiration. In the meantime, I’ll admire my bounty, think up storage plans, and enjoy my cutting garden while it lasts.
